Childrens’ Eyecare

Our Eyecare Guide for Parents

Caring for Your Children’s Eyes

At the Eyecare Spot, we understand the importance of early eye care for children. Great vision is essential to a child’s overall development, learning, and quality of life. It enables them to succeed in school, sports, and social activities, providing them with the building blocks as they become young adults.

Many visual problems, if detected early, can be managed or corrected. Early eye examinations can identify vision problems that may impact your child’s development, helping to ensure they get the best start possible. Regular eye exams will ensure that any developing issues are caught early, helping your child stay on track with visual learning.

Looking Out For The Symptoms

Signs Your Child May Need an Eye Exam

Children are unlikely to communicate that they have vision issues, so it’s important to understand the symptoms to look out for. Signs may include:

  • Squinting, closing one eye, or tilting their head to see clearly

  • Complaints of headaches or eye strain, particularly during or after reading or using screens

  • Frequently rubbing their eyes

  • Sitting too close to the TV or holding a book too close

  • Avoiding activities like reading or drawing that require good near vision

  • Falling behind in school or struggling with attention

If your child exhibits these signs, it may be time for a comprehensive eye exam.

Common Eye Conditions In Children

  • Technically known as Myopia, is a condition that causes distant objects to appear blurry. Myopia often develops in school-age children and may progress over time.

  • Also known as hyperopia, by which nearby objects are more difficult to see. Minor farsightedness is often outgrown, but more significant cases may require corrective eye lenses.

  • Technically known as Amblyopia, is a developmental issue where one eye doesn’t develop clear vision, leading to weaker vision in that eye. Amblyopia is most successfully treated when detected early.

  • Astigmatism is a minor eye condition that causes a child’s vision to be blurred or distorted. This occurs due to the cornea or lens being slightly irregular in shape.

Testing Childrens’ Eyes

Children's eye examinations differ from adult examinations to better suit their needs. Our team is trained to create a comfortable environment for kids. Parents are encouraged to stay with their child throughout the test, which includes evaluating eye muscles and related structures to ensuring overall eye health.

The Eyecare Spot stocks a variety of stylish, yet durable frames and lenses best suited for children.
